CB he didn't appear very presidential in regards to asking the Russians to intervene in the Serbian election situation to help oust Milosevic since the Russia agree with the man that a run-off election is required. If foreign policy is not within the realm of the "presidential" what is?

As the Slate author noted:

By the time the subject turned to foreign policy, Gore was moving dangerously near the overkill zone--a line he seemed to sense and tread carefully. When Lehrer asked what the United States should do about Slobodan Milosevic's refusal to accept the results of the recent Serbian election, Gore gave a detailed answer about creating incentives for the Serbs to get rid of their tyrant, pronouncing the name "Kostunica" with diplomatic precision. Bush avoided both the specifics and the opportunity to show his pronunciation skills. "It's time for the man to go," he said referring to Milosevic, adding, "This will be an interesting moment for the Russians to step up and lead as well.... We would like to see the Russians use [their] sway to encourage democracy to take hold."

Gore swiftly parried. "Now I understand what the governor has said about asking the Russians to be involved and under some circumstances that might be a good idea," the Vice President said. "But being as they have not yet been willing to recognize the lawful winner of the election, I'm not sure it's right for us to invite the president of Russia to mediate this." Once again, point, game, and set to Gore.

This kind of blunder is very telling. This conflict has been on-going and he should know the players and their respective positions.

And I believe that a candidate's programs say a lot about the candidate. They tell you where and how the candidate will apply White House subsequent pressure on Congress if his campaign programs do not become law. To think that proposed legislation orignates within Congress in some sort of vacuum is incorrect.

And speaking of down the drain--When Bush's wealthy contributors realize he blew the biggest chance for a tax cut in a decade through poor design (by failing to take into account the effect of Alternative Minimum Tax) how will they react? I doubt they'll abandon him. But, I think it says a lot about the man's program and capabilities to execute them...and what it says does not inspire confidence.

And yes, I guess I do get a little testy when someone implies that I am brainless even with an apology <ggg.>
