OT, Tony, this certainly isn't the 70's. But if we throw that out as an aberration, the 4% is at the high end of the historical range. Recall that when Nixon made his grandest domestic policy mistake and initiated wage and price controls in the early 70's, it was in response to inflation rising above 3%. (As an aside, that sure worked well, huh?)

Additionally, I think that the BLS under-reports inflation. There are a number of reasons behind this belief, but out of respect for terraplane and other EMC investors, I'll take that to PM's if anyone is interested.

BTW, terraplane, note that there is no presidential analysis in this post.
