it occurred to me as i watched the debate last night that al gore certainly could have come across so much better if only he'd taken a page from john kennedy's book on how to kick your opponent's butt in a debate.
specifically, whenever bush spoke, gore was rolling his eyes, shaking his head, smiling, doing his very best to convey to us all how badly he wanted to respond to his opponent.
and he came out looking like a monkey.
john kennedy, for anyone who saw him debate richard nixon, was the epitome of calm while nixon spoke. his face nearly expressionless, perhaps only the twinkle of an eye to forewarn of the verbal rebuttal that was building within, he exuded confidence, respect and superior skill and knowledge over his opponent.
gore, otoh, was more like a little kid who was nearly busting to have his say.
he would benefit greatly from adopting a more respectful, self-assured demeanor. |
