. The question is asked "should God be replaced?" I would suggest that is the wrong question. Can God be replaced, might be more suitable,
Greg, you missed the irony in the question. Not the physical manifestation of God (which I doubt any of us can replace, if it exists) but the belief systems behind that God figure. I thought that was obvious.
The evils that Solon listed were done by people. People saying what God did or what He told them. Like my reports of the Tire God's vengeance, some of this stuff just doesn't sound right. It shouldn't sound right to you, IMO, but it does. THAT is a miracle, I guess.
To me all that matters is that you and your ilk don't do harm to me. BTW, your "ilk" meant "devout believers" and not specifically Christians. I'm convinced that if we (you and I) live our lives identically in a principled and kind way, then you and I will be in the same place when we are dead. WHAT or WHERE that place is, you and I can't really say for sure. But since we are all on the journey to that place whether we like it or not, treating each other with respect, kindness, and compassion makes the journey much nicer.
BTW, it's not like Christians have never cut off heads in the name of God. Or Muslims. Or any kind of fanatic. Despite that, I doubt God was a major consideration in the minds of the the thugs who are killing in Africa. So, IMO, we should compare like-to-like. |
