MediSolution signs contracts totalling $1.3 million with Boundary Trails Health Centre
MONTREAL, Oct. 4 /CNW/ - MediSolution Ltd. (MSH:TSE) has signed two contracts valued at more than $1.3 million to provide an electronic patient record and to deliver and integrate a picture archiving communications system (PACS) into the information management systems of the Boundary Trails Health Centre in Winkler, Manitoba. MediPatient +, a regional electronic patient record which will link the new PACS system to all of the clinical systems in the hospital, is a state-of-the-art system designed to enhance telehealth and the hospital's ambulatory care strategy. It is the leading electronic patient record with more than 150 installations in less than two years, each of which represents an opportunity for downstream integration of PACS systems of this magnitude. Demand for this product continues to increase fuelled by the trend towards healthcare integration at the community and regional levels. When completed in spring 2001, the $35-million Boundary Trails Health Centre located between Winkler and Morden, 120 km southwest of Winnipeg, will provide service to some 50,000 patients annually in a territory stretching from the Trans-Canada Highway to the U.S. border. To cover this area the health centre's physicians rely heavily on technology to support ambulatory care and home care services. ``While the technology will be centred on Boundary Trails, as soon as the telecommunications infrastructure will support it, we intend to link all healthcare providers in our region to the MediPatient + system,'' said Dr. Donald Dyck, Chief of Radiology at the health centre. At the core of this technology is MediPatient +, a longitudinal electronic patient record designed to track every event in a patient's life. This technology also links with other clinical software such as PACS, which enables the digital capture and storage of all types of radiological images including x-rays, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI's), Computed Tomography (CT's) and other diagnostic imaging. The use of PACS allows for increased productivity from the radiology department by sharply reducing the turnaround time of a radiological report, increasing patient throughput. In addition to driving down the costs of health care, the combined technologies also reduce waiting lists and lead to better patients care. Up-to-date patient history is available at all times, and can be viewed simultaneously from multiple locations including via the Internet. ``This installation really demonstrates the true value of new technology in improving healthcare delivery,'' said Rémi St-Hilaire, President and Chief Executive Officer of MediSolution. ``It enables doctors, armed with laptop computers to serve patients covering a vast area more effectively than ever before.'' Pat Artinoff, President of MediSolution's Ontario West Division, said, ``This new technology is responding to an insatiable demand for regionally integrated healthcare delivery. Not only is our product the leading edge electronic patient record, but it readily integrates with a wide variety of clinical software. In this way, we are able to bring total solutions to our customers through a single source.'' To meet the requirements of the Boundary Trails Health Centre, MediSolution partnered with Data General for hardware and MarkCare Medical Systems for their PACS technology. |
