Still nothing to compare w/ the Appalachian forests that assault the senses w/ an overpowering spectrum of previously unimagined hues. I've never been to the Appalachians but I imagine they must be similar to the Adirondacks. When you walk through the forest, you feel as if you are the first human to ever be graced by the beauty. So much to look at, to study, to enjoy. Occasionally you stumble upon a hidden brook or pond. You can sneak up on the wildlife during their busy working day. Beavers damming a stream, chipmonks gathering acorns, trout making ripples in the water as they jump out of the stillness. So much activity going on in their world. One time, I saw a huge owl sitting 30 ft. up on a tall tree branch. We both just stared at each other for about 10 minutes. I felt like he could hear my thoughts I could hear his. He then swooped out of the tree and displayed his 6 ft. wingspan as he flew in and around the trees. Fantastic! I was amazed how he could time the flapping of his large wings as to fit between some of the trees that stood close together. He landed on another branch about 75 ft. away and continued to watch me as I made my way up the trail. All this talk about the leaves and trees has really relaxed me... I think I'll wait until 4:00 to see what the Naz has done. I don't want to ruin the lovely vision I'm seeing right now. -ClappyTheWoodsman
