NHC Proves Test Access Solution Interoperable With Teradyne DSL Test System Cross Connect and Test Systems Provide DSL Loop Qualification TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2000--NHC Communications Inc. (TSE:NHC - news), a leading provider of carrier class test access and deployment solutions for the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service market, announced today that it has completed interoperability testing with the Broadband Test Division of Teradyne, Inc (NYSE:TER - news). NHC's Virtual Cross-Connect System (VCCS(TM)) was proven to reliably operate with Teradyne's Celerity(TM) DSL test system . Celerity performs layer 1 loop qualification, provisioning, and service assurance testing enabling DSL service providers to accurately mass qualify, provision, and maintain DSL loops.
``Local Exchange Carriers are seeking ways to improve DSL testing and pre-qualification,'' said Sylvain Abitbol, President and Chief Executive Officer of NHC. ``Together with test system partners like Teradyne, NHC can provide a superior solution for remote cross-connect and DSL testing.''
Using NHC's true any-to-any cross-connect capability and Teradyne's single-ended loop qualification, the two companies will provide CLECs and ILECS with the ability to perform remote testing, provisioning, fallback switching and service migration. This solution will also enable local exchange carriers (LECs) to test, qualify, deploy and redirect DSL unbundled copper loops remotely -- all functions that have traditionally required the services of an on-site technician.
Teradyne's Celerity(TM) can quickly and accurately pre-qualify millions of copper loops remotely, detecting the presence and impact of local loop impediments on DSL service including load coils and bridged taps. The technology is both scalable and adaptable to multiple DSL technologies. As a result, CLECs and ILECs can deploy DSL lines faster, thereby increasing the total number of available lines.
VCCS' interoperability with Celerity was proven earlier this year in Teradyne's CableFarm - a state-of-the-art access network test facility. Here, the test system and cross connect were tested against an array of line configurations, including North American and European loop models, to ensure product performance in actual network deployments.
``As demand for DSL services increases, DSL service providers are looking for a solution for their testing and provisioning needs,'' said Chris Barton, Celerity product manager. ``By working with NHC, we are able to prove the performance of the test system and cross connect against customers' requirements for cost-effective support and rapid deployment of DSL.''
