Fowler 2, re: "Because strongly stated convictions can alienate some posible constituents. If I was running for president and was debating Bush or Gore I probably make some strong statement that causes too many people to decide that they will never vote for me thus ruining my chances of getting elected. Bush and Gore are good politicans, they will avoid making that mistake even if it does make the debates less honest and less interesting." So what is the point of folks actually getting worked up over the relative merits of Bush/Gore? These guys are actors, playing to a script written by market research folks. We have let the marketing people take over politics, so there is no substance. Whatever they say is a reflection of what 51% of the people think. You can get involved, but to think that it has anything to do with reality is self-deception. John
