In Atlas Shrugged perpetual motion is shrugged off as an ordinary idea until the giant behind the idea stops sharing ideas.

Laborer chooses not to work -- everyone does their own labor. Small inconvenience.

Atlas chooses not to work -- no new inventions. Major difference in future of human race.
