You are right, Papa Doc was gone in the 70's, Baby Doc was gone in '86. Those guys were charming. Aristide (a priest) was elected (sort of a distinction) in 1990, and immediately overthrown by the military. Clinton and the UN helped to return him to power in '94. No matter how you look at it, Haiti has been and is now a shame on the America's. The poorest country in the hemisphere, folks very literally starving to death. I've been there, I've seen it.

I REALLY don't want to be drawn into a political debate, but you could argue that Papa Bush's end game against Saddam Hussein wasn't all that effective, see the current situation.

I'm a political agnostic, I'm not on either side. Both sides have failed adventures.
