The Technical Case Against the TDMA/Edge/W-CDMA System.
You all have been so nice to endure my humor thatI thought I mighe explain how we knod that QCOM's CDMA will overcome the TDMA/EDGE/W-CDMA path.

In Summary, this graph (by Dr. Jacobs of QCOM) of the capacity of 10 MHz of spectrum in mixtures of voice/data utilization says it all. Read vertical axis (Erlangs) as voice capacity and Horizontal axis (KBps) as data capacity. In every case capacity of QCOM's CDMA far exceeds that of the TDMA/EDGE/W-CDMA path.

Further, the GSM/TDMA upgrade path involves multiple expensive discards of both phones and system. Whereas the QCOM CDMA phones and system are forward and backward compatible. Thus, operators that upgrate from GSM or TDMA to W-CDMA will incurr huge equipment costs compared to thse adopting QCOM's CDMA.

Technical Info about fitting QCOM's CDMA and W-CDMA in 10 MHz, 15 MHz and 20 MHz of spectrum. Note that the W-CDMA system fails to include "Guard Bands" which are necessary to prevent contamination of adjoining spectrum.
