I actually believe that we should not run excess budget surpluses, and am for tax relief to some. I do not agree with all the extents of additional spending, but if the budget is balanced, and tax relief to those that need it really, is slowly brought in (not in one swoon that causes economic dislocations, like the "at risk" change in real estate taxation early in Reagan's administration), the economy will flourish. Note that under this "Itch behind his zipper" President, we reduced head count in the federal government by 300,000, no Democratic or Republican president before has ever achieved Federal head count reduction (except Truman when Millions were demobilized after WWII). I think that if Gore wants to let another 100,000 Fed employees leave the federal payroll (by attrition) and replace this with support to hire 100,000 (locally paid) teachers, it is laudable.
I personally will probably pay more taxes under Gore (almost all my income is "long term capital gains", and my taxation rate, while legal, is not fair). hey, some parts of my long term capital gains (stock in start up companies held for more than 5 years) are now taxed only at 10%, while that business person is laboring under 55% taxes. What a country...
