"Speed, speed and more speed."

Are you saying that Macs are faster than PCs? I got one of the original PowerPC Macs when they were launched (at work) and it was noticeably slower than my clunky 486/66.

Besides, even if Macs were faster, who cares? PCs are much faster nowadays than 90% of the people need. Where I work we have dozens of secretaries with Pentium 150s, 32MB RAM, and 21" monitors just to run MS Word. It's overkill. It's like buying a Porsche to go to the supermarket on the weekends.

I haven't forgotten that Apple made the transition from 68000 to PoserPC. I haven't forgotten either that they kept promising Copland and never delivered. If Microsoft had delayed any one of its profits half as much as Copland was delayed, everybody would be complaining. Apple was just not competent enough to write an OS with preeemptive multitasking and memory protection. That is why they had to buy NeXT.

I have rarely seen a company with as small chance of succeeding as Apple. It is on a league with Novell, in that respect. If they kicked out Amelio and got Jobs as CEO maybe he could turn it around.
