Joe,

<How much MHz headroom do you think there is for Mustang/Palomino before they move to .13u?>

Mustang/Palmino should be able to go to about 1.7G mid next year.

< Do you think AMD will be competitive MHz wise until Q1/Q2 2002, when the Hammer family will enter the scene?>

I do not expect AMD to be competitive on MHz for most, if not all, of 2001 barring a total disaster from Intel. However, I expect AMD to be quite competitive in performance. I expect AMD to be kicking butt in FPU (I know Tench and a few other Intel folks think otherwise).

Based on the MHz lead and marketing muscle, I expect Intel to successfully position P4 as high-end product and leave AMD with a mid-range perception. P3 will decisively move to the low-end.

IMHO, most of the volume/money is in mid-range. There are not that many units to be sold at high-end and there is not much margin to be made at the low-end. The key is to increase penetration in the business market. AMD has been quite successful in the international scene but US has been a tough nut to crack (And of course there is Dell, which, I might add, has been stupid enough to stick with Intel and see the system ASPs erode and Q4 target sales numbers decline)

Assuming AMD can do break through, and I am 99% certain they will, mid-range is not at all a bad place for AMD to be in my view (other than the fact that some of the die-hard AMD fans may be disappointed).
