<<Niceguy, I thought, that AMD management should spell out for the analysts the cause of the current diverging fortunes of AMD and INTC/AAPL!!!

Not exactly debating your point, but why should they spell out the whole enchillada again? they have guided the anlasyts and guide the analysts and guided the analysts..........., they just don't get it! >>

Chung,

I thing the fact that the analysts "just don't get it" speaks to the need to gear the CC presentation to the level needed, much like a good politician stays 'on topic'and spins events towards the story they want to tell regardless of what questions are asked of him or her. Since Intel, and now it appears Dell as well, has defined the battleground as Europe (blaming them for a general slowdown, in effect, and thus contradicting an interpretation of a company-specific problem), maybe the CC should contain country by country (hell, city by city if they need to) European comparisons to drill the point into the thick heads of the analysts (apologies to jchowlea (sp?). Assuming that AMD has such a good European story to tell on the 11th (let us pray), I'd treat it as a remedial math class - figuratively point out the basic prinicples and operations of addition and then ask the class - "And so, 2 plus 2 equals....? Yes, Mr. Josephthal of SSB?"
Josephthal: "5?"
"Yes, Mr. Wu?"
Wu: "2 Squared?"
"Mr. Kumar, perhaps you could tell us?"
Ashok Kumar: "222?"
"Perhaps Mr. Scovill could enlighten us?"
Dan Scovill: "4 !"
"Give that man the see-gar!"

I am, of course, kidding here, but if AMD has the goods to deliver on the 11th, let us pray that they say it loud, clear, and repeatedly, rather than fumbling away another opportunity as they did with the Q2 call.
