Another reminder of the somewhat cavalier way the Acorn shareholders were treated when MSDW split it up...
Cambridge-based micro chip company Element 14, which has yet to generate any revenue, has been bought by US semiconductor group Broadcom for $594 million (407 million stg) Element 14 is an offshoot of Acorn, a one time personal computer manufacturer which also gave birth to ARM, a quoted chip design company now worth 7.4 billion stg. Element 14 was set up last year, and its sale has generated huge returns for its backers, which have invested $13 million in the company...
