Meteor Technologies' major investment, ThoughtShare Communications Inc.,
will begin distributing version 1 of its first major software product,
entitled PlanBee by way of the Internet on Oct. 10, 2000.
The initial distribution of the program will occur by way of the facilities
of ZDNet, located at www.ZDNet.com, pursuant to a contractual agreement
between ZDNet Inc. and ThoughtShare in which ZDNet will make the program
available to its widespread, international audience for a minimum of 48
hours on an exclusive basis. The program will be free of charge to those
requesting it.
Following the 48-hour period, PlanBee will be distributed through a number
of freeware and shareware channels, as well as by way of ThoughtShare's own
Internet Web site, www.ThoughtShare.com.
Meteor Technologies has purchased a 50.3-per-cent interest in ThoughtShare,
an Internet software company that is developing a wide range of commercial
products founded on an underlying ability to help people capture Web-based
information through methods at stem from scientific research.
The first major program, PlanBee, runs as a companion to an Internet Web
browser. With it, Internet information generated by a browser session on
the World Wide Web, can be combined with user's own thoughts and ideas
about that information, and other files can be added to it as attachments.
This package of information created by PlanBee can be saved as a file
called a buzPak, which can can be presented in a compelling visual format
to a user's friends or colleagues, sent to them, or simply saved as a
dynamic reference for the user. By attaching personal notes or files to the
buzPak, a user can easily add meaning to Web addresses when doing research
on the Internet. The file can also be posted to a Web site, creating the
building blocks of a personal or professional knowledge-management system.
ThoughtShare is also working on a suite of programs, under the umbrella
name of bZone, aimed at organizations of all sizes. These programs, which
are expected to be commercially available later this year, are designed to
harness the power of buzPaks in corporate settings.
