AMD Plans [6:48 pm] Rat
We happened to get some information concerning the launching of AMD’s upcoming CPUs. Namely:

Since Intel is having problems with its Pentium 4 and elder Pentium III versions, AMD decided to take its time and to announced only 1.2GHz Athlon this year. The same thing is valid for AMD Duron CPUs. Its clock frequency will not overcome the 800MHz barrier this year. The first products designed for 266MHz FSB are expected to be announced in the very beginning of 2001. The first CPUs to come out will be Athlon 1.26GHz and Athlon 1.33GHz. Starting from 1.4GHz, Athlon will feature a new Palomino core based on Mustang. This transition will take place in Q1 2001. Duron 850MHz due in Q1 2001 will feature a new Morgan core also based on Mustang.

So, in the meanwhile AMD decided not to speed up the natural course of events. However, the company doesn’t have any concerns about the CPUs manufacturing supporting up to 1.5GHz that’s why these plans can be revised and changed any time, so please, take note of it.
