I'm sorry. If the American public is so informed and great, then why is Al Gore calling for Federal education reform?

You're kidding, right?

Assuming you're not, the obvious answer is that there is always room for improvement.

The candidates of the two major parties have similar desires for improving education. That's nice.

However, standardized testing is scary.

You and I have a cordial if pointed disagreement going today. I think that is healthy. (I sure have learned a lot and have had notions I took for granted challenged by Freeus' point of view and appreciation the knowledge I have gained.)

If both you and I had been in all the same classes taught towards the same standardized tests we would probably have more similar thinking than we do and both of us (and our country) would be compromised because of it.

Seems to me that standardized testing seeks to create a standard (sounds rhetorical). The purpose of standardized tests is to make "them" like "us."

We are a rich country because of our divergence, because we embrace those who are "foreign" in every meaning of the word. (Heck, look at some of those who post here:)

Doesn't mean that I like all wheel-chair bound, right-brained, black, lesbian, republican dwarfs with a northern accent, but I bet they have a fascinating point of view that would cause me to reflect on my own ideas, and that I might actually learn something and be better off because of it.

Thank you very much.
