David,

<< The arrangement in your picture is much neater than the clunky iPaq cable arrangement I've seen. Why did you switch to a new phone that needed the cumbersome cable hook up? >>

Verizons new national rate plan (no roaming or long distance charges in tiered bundled rates) necessitated tri-mode (AMPS800/CDMA800/CDMA1900) and the QCP860 dual-mode (800MHz AMPS/CDMA) although eligible for "Single-Rate East" didn't qualify for Single Rate USA.

As a result of increased travel across the US I swapped plans (and phones, and inherited the cable mess). Neither the available tri-mode Audivox or Motorola StarTac had a Palm to phone data cable.
