Top 12 reasons for AAPL's demise in 1998: 1. First Mag cover with call for Amelio's head! Saw the first public call for Amelio's head on a magazine cover at the newstand tonight. I think it was on Red Herring but I could be wrong! Add 9 more reasons! Why would any developer consider continuing support for Apple when he now has to support 9 (count 'em 9) Operating System/processor combinations? The addition of the so called Yellow Box will mean supporting: 1 & 2. MacOS on its own (both 68k and PPC) 3. Yellow Box with MacOS (PPC only) 4. Yellow Box with Rhapsody for PPC 5. Yellow Box for Rhapsody Intel 6 & 7. Yellow Box for Win 95 ( and don't forget Win 98!) 8 & 9 Yellow Box for Win NT(and don't forget Win NT 5.0!) This nine point lunacy on its own could kill AAPL in less than 12 months! ( No wonder PC/Wintel developers are all giggling in a corner. Their worst case scenario is a 5 point nightmare: Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 and Windows Nt 5.0. This works out at half the effort for 10 times the potential market share. ) Add the death of Newton in the next 30 days as the 11th reason. Stick Java in there as the 12th way that developers will lose focus and the picture seems bleak indeed. Comments?
