The word seems to be that upside earnings are going to be ignored this earnings season. Like MU today. Forward guidance make the difference. I think everyone is finally wising up to the fact that these tech stocks have been priced to perfection. That the numbers are made to be beaten. That the economy is slowing that growth rates will slow with it. PCLN, and AMZN going for broke now. Internet B2C looks like a failure for the most part. B2B starting to come down to earth. Stocks like RAZF smashed. CMRC, ARBA and the like still trying to hold on to the dream. Internet incubators like CMGI and ICGE are falling apart. Biotech and Telecom sectors are the last hope. The last sectors that investors still dream about. Biotech will take some time to come down to earth. Telecom has a quarter or two more of floating before it's smashed too.

Just my impression of the general trend.

As for the next few weeks. Sure, we could lose 3350 and test 3000 on the heals of another warning or we could put this earning season behind us and rally next week as we dream of great earnings and a wonderful Christmas season. I think the reality will be that this will be the Christmas that never came. Last year we has Y2K spending...upgrades and all that...we has Y2K fear spending as people bought generators, chain saws and stocked up on all sorts of stuff. We also had "why not spend it's Y2K" spending where people blew some fun money just in case. Then we had the I made a killing in the market this year spending. Where tech investors treated the family to wonderful presents. The market is down for the year. Interest rates are up. Money supply is not being juiced like last fall...I think this Christmas will not compare well to last year. I could be wrong but thats my bet.

Who's going to lead the market back up to over 3650? CSCO? Looks to me like it's all up to CSCO. Who else? Just CSCO...the company that pretends to earn money.
