Comparable devices cannot be achieved with conventional Silicon technology, so a key application for the new SiC devices will be the replacement of fast Si-pin-rectifiers."

While compariable devices "cannot be achieved with conventional Silicon technology", companies like SynQor have completely done away with Schottky-diodes. My read is that this is basically a non-event. Interesting though that at the low end of power bricks and other applications for Schottky-diodes can be approached with SiC.
