APWR, very bullish Dow Jones story after the close

excerpts

<<At the Stephens Solar Power Solutions Conference 2000 in in Arkansas, [President and Chief Executive Allen M.] Barnett said he "gave a clear description of where we're going." The official noted that there were twice as many buy-side investors at the conference than expected. " The space is getting more attention and we are the only profitable company in the space," he said.

What investors are hearing is that AstroPower is "scrambling to add (manufacturing) capacity" to take advantage of the great demand for its products, according to Barnett. AstroPower has had to increase its manufacturing capacity significantly. "We're sold out through the end of next year," the official said.

A 50%-plus rise in product revenue has been powering strong quarterly results this year, and the third quarter should be no different. Analysts, according to First Call/Thomson Financial, expect earnings to jump 29% to 9 cents a share from 7 cents. Barnett, who said AstroPower is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings in early November, declined to comment specifically on analysts' projections. He said, however, that "the important parameters for the quarter are in good shape.">>
