Scrapps, re: SBC
from PR:
The contract covers SBC's nationwide entry into 30 markets outside its traditional service areas. The company already has
established sales and operations activities in Baltimore, Boston, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, New York, Seattle, and Washington, DC, with
full service to begin this fall.

biz.yahoo.com
traditional SBC area includes Pac Bell, Southwestern BEll - West Cost and Ameritech - Midwest.
In addition to that SBC awarded 6 billion (Pronto)to
Alcatel(about 4.5 billion), Newbridge, now part of Alcatel
for ATM in Southwestern Bell, Lucent(some ATM) and NT for optics.
About 85% of Pronto is access(Alcatel)combined with Newbridge
ATM platform.
As you see SBC is entering others market on East Cost, and this is where LU plays major role.
Of course the sweet spot is in traditional SBC area, where they have majority of customers and network build-up occurs.
