In late 2001, Those 4 1.2GHZ Itanics should almost keep up with a single die 2GHZ dual core Sledgehammer. Sledgehammer will have a shared L2 so there will be no performance loss due to the overhead of maintaining cache coherency - while the Itanics will be churning their caches.

In addition to its better performance, the one die / dual core Sledgehammer will cost about 1 fifth as much to produce as the 4 brick Itanic "solution."
