One in four adults still smoking
Rate holds fairly steady throughout 90s, CDC figures show
ASSOCIATED PRESS

Oct. 5 — The number of American adults who
smoke held steady in 1998 at one in four — a rate
that hardly budged during the 1990s despite
anti-tobacco campaigns and new kick-the-habit
aids like nicotine gum and the patch......................................................................One way to reduce healthcare costs is to get rid of tobacco...........the cost of treating diseases related to smoking is enormous............emphysema,lung cancer, vascular disease, strokes, heart attacks, and postopreative complications........the list goes on and on.
