Since SS taxes take in about as much revenue as income taxes

Here are government collections for 1998 as a percentage of total collections.


Individual income tax                      50.0%
Employee portion of Social Security taxes  16.8%


Of course, most grand political pronouncements here are dubious, so what the heck.

PS: Social Security is not really a tax. It is an old age and disability insurance.
