You pay 7.65% of every dollar you make into the Social Security progam and your employer pays 7.65% on your behalf. The total Uncle Sam receives of your gross pay each year is 15.30%. A pretty tidy sum. What if you saved that amount over your lifetime and invested it at even 6%? You would be a very wealthy man.
