Prudential, everything is in line at RF Micro Devices

From Jim Jubak MSN Central column

These days when earnings warnings are coming fast and furious, analysts are busy double-checking projections at companies even if they haven't said anything negative. According to an Oct. 3 research report from Prudential Securities, everything is in line at RF Micro Devices (RFMD, news, msgs). Prudential expects the company to meet the consensus estimate of 10 cents a share when it reports earnings on Oct. 17. The report goes on to note that the company has no exposure to the weak euro/strong dollar currency problem since all contracts are denominated in euros. It also says the company is on schedule to start production at its second factory later in 2000. Going forward, the stock should benefit from the increase in revenue the new plant makes possible. It also will be helped by the rollout of new models at Nokia in the fourth quarter since, Prudential believes, the new Nokia 3300, 6200 and 8200 lines include RF Micro Devices products. I think that gives the stock great potential going forward, but I do recognize that multiples are coming down all throughout the technology sector. I'm therefore lowering my target price on RF Micro Devices to $65 from the current $77.50 and stretching out the time period to March from October.
