Hello Ron,

There are a lot of assumptions when using meaningless terms like "liberal" (I'm not one in many people's eyes and have voted Republican when it suits me). This type of labelling tends to ignore facts and is polarizing. If that's the effect one is looking for, then it is effective communication. If not, then avoiding polarizing language is probably a better approach.

Sure no one who lives in a "good" neighborhood is forced to commit crimes but a reasonable person should be able to understand why crime is an alternative in an economically blighted area, especially when one lacks the stability of a good home. At least I can. It sounds like you just don't see this.

I know a considerable number of people who's main distinction between being a "felon" and "highly productive respected citizen" is that they weren't caught. Now that's fine in a country where you are innocent until proven guilty, but it is hypocritical if you're going to apply moral statements about character regarding this rather arbitrary distinction.

If GWB (as an example) or WJC (as an other, to show balance) used illegal drugs (and thereby committed felonies that they weren't prosecuted for), we have to ask ourselves what is the moral difference between this and some kid in Compton or Watts who was not able to get a good lawyer and get a plea bargain or the charges dropped. Or was in a place where the visibility of such acts was much higher.

For someone not no see the obviousness of this saddens me. What a distorted world view they would have and no wonder so much of the world doesn't make sense to them.

Regard,

cos
