As Mark mentioned, you can go into system setup during the boot up and on the second page it will lists devices. Make sure the sound is turned on there. After that is done, I would reseat the sound card and it should force the plug and play (or use add hardware) to look for the new device.

When you uninstalled the program, did it say it was removing files that might be in use by other programs?
