HG48: Momma Coon has lost an eye. I was devastated last night. It was raining and she brought her babies up to eat. I had moved all the food up against the outside doors to the deck where the food wouldn't get as wet. They know to look there when the food is not in the regular place.

I was watching them come up to the door and Momma stood on her hind legs and looked up at me in the door window. Only one eye. I was crushed. Stunned. I'm sure it was due to the fight she had trying to save that 3rd baby coon she lost that I told u about. Her wounds on her back are healing over but that is the first time I'd seen the eye. My wife mentioned last week when we noticed she was hurt that it looked like something was also wrong with her eye. Now we know.

I went to the other door in the family room and opened it about 6 inches which was closer to the food. I was laying on the floor and had my head right there where Momma was eating her cookies and trying to get a closer look. She kept looking up at me, with that hurt eye, and I tell ya, I almost cried it hurt so bad to think of the fight she must have put up to save her babies from whatever it was after them.

She knew I was looking at her and after her and the two remaining little ones ate their cookies, the family started handing them cookies through the door crack. Babies were hungry. Momma would probably come in the house if we let her.
