Semtech Announces the Industry's Highest Performing Subscriber Line Interface Protection; 15% Smaller Than Comparable Devices
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2000 2:30:00 PM EST NEWBURY PARK, Calif., Oct 6, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Semtech Corp. SMTC, a leader in semiconductor solutions for communications, interface and power management, today announced the newest member of its TransClamp(TM) family of transient voltage suppressors (TVS) designed to protect sensitive Subscriber Line Interface Circuits (SLIC) from damage or latch-up due to lightning and other voltage disturbances.
The TC03A-200 protects up to two Tip & Ring line pairs with wide firing range (from -5V to -100V) and gate firing voltage that is automatically being referenced to the battery voltage. The device meets the most rugged lightning requirements of Bellcore 1089 (long haul) as well as other telecom standards, such as VDE0433, ITU K20, and FCC Part 68.
The device features solid-state TVS process technology in a space-saving SOT-89 package, offering the higher performance and integration, ideal for SLIC, cable telephony, and ISDN applications.
The device is "programmable," in that the firing voltage is referenced to the system's battery voltage. The TC03A-200 tracks the voltage and fires when the line voltage exceeds the battery voltage. This type of programmable protection is particularly suited for newer, self-ringing SLIC ICs, but is also effective for systems employing external mechanical ring relays. Additionally, the device features a wide firing range, and high holding current of 200mA, ensuring that the device will not latch-up after the surge current subsides.
"The TC03A-200 marks Semtech's foray into SLIC protection," said Tom Dugan, director of marketing for Protection Products. "This small surface-mount package device gives designers a solution to protect against high surge current transients. It is the ideal choice for engineers designing in space-restrictive telecom applications."
