I'm sorry I missed it earlier.

This approach takes the value of AV on 10/1 out of the LU cost. It works well here because AV is not worth that much. If AV on 10/1 had been worth more than my cost basis of LU, some shares as low as ~$7, there would be a problem. While the pro-rating makes more sense to me, this approach would be fair in this price range.
