Nordstrom sales increase in September 2000
SEATTLE, Wash. – Oct. 5, 2000 – Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE: JWN) today reported preliminary sales of $421.7 million for the month of September 2000, compared to sales of $364.4 million in
September 1999. Adjusting for the impact of differences in the specific days of the week that comprise September 2000 compared to September 1999, total sales for September 2000 increased 12.0 percent, while same-store sales increased 4.3 percent. Unadjusted total and same-store sales for the month of September 2000 rose 15.7 percent and 7.9 percent, respectively.
Preliminary 2000 year-to-date sales of $3.4 billion increased 7.2 percent compared to 1999 year-to-date sales of $3.2 billion, while year-to-date same-store sales increased 1.7 percent.
Adjusted same-store sales in full-line stores during September 2000 increased in the East Coast, Southwest and Northwest regions, and were flat in the Central States region. Adjusted same-store sales in full-line stores during September 2000 increased in all major merchandise categories except children’s apparel.
Nordstrom, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading fashion specialty retailers, with 116 stores located in 23 states, including 76 full-line stores, 34 Nordstrom Racks, three Façonnable boutiques, two free-standing shoe stores, and one clearance store. The company also serves customers online at NORDSTROM.com and NORDSTROMshoes.com, as well as through its direct mail catalogs.
Total square footage of the company’s stores was 15,661,000 as of Oct. 5, 2000.
