Yeah, I'm okay although I've been a bit surprised at all the people I know who constantly ask about my health. I did not think it was such a big deal.....but to be honest I did tell my wife while in Canada to wait until no one was looking and then to please kill me. I suppose my state of mind changed quickly once I started to recover.
But I do not blame Canada for the length of time it took for aide, I was in a remote section of the province and really needed a helicopter. A helicopter which had to get to central Ontario from Toronto and if they had other emergencies then it was my tough luck. I know of people who have died in Ontario only because they went to areas remote, such as mine, and attacks that would be routine elsewhere were untreatable in recesses that lack for telephone and electricity.
It astounds me, the antagonism here on this thread about Canadian Health Care. Here in the States one gets a Liberal pounding about the benefits of Socialized Medicine. Yet here is the owner of the grass on the other side relating that it is not such a wonderful deal, after all.
The nurses in the hospital even asked how the hospital compared to the States, I thought it was fine. Well, I did have one battleaxe who was convinced that all Americans were wanton scum but the general facility and the competence of the staff was first rate.
Actually, I feel guilty. The Canadians use different codes for Insurance than the U.S. does. So here is a spinner. Speaking to the Insurance company, Blue Cross, in the U.S. we were told that they could not understand the codes, it's "a foreign country so a different language" after all.
The problem down here is that the Insurance people have trouble with English, evidently. Meanwhile I cannot just write them a check because I have to wait until I know what amount to make it out for. Judging by the last time something like this happened, it may take over a year. I really hate delaying payment but in my experience it takes about a year to work out the issues.
You have Socialized Medicine, we have Socialized Insurance payments I guess. |
