Presidential preference poll
USA TODAY, along with CNN and the Gallup organization, will release each day through Nov. 7 results of a continuing presidential preference poll. Each day's results are based on responses from the three preceding days. Results will be updated daily at about 5 p.m. ET. The poll's margin of error is +/- 4 points.

Friday's results: George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore are back in a neck-and-neck race, with Gore leading 45% - 44%. Gore led Bush by 11 points as of Thursday, but his lead has shrunk to a single percentage point. Bush's improvement can be credited to his performance in Tuesday's presidential debate, as he received strong support in poll surveys taken Wednesday and Thursday. This weekend's poll results, based on surveys taken entirely after Tuesday's debate, should give a better idea of the true effects of the candidates' first face-to-face meeting.
