So I don't think IA-64 programs need to be profiled, any more than programs compiled for regular OOO processors need it.

If this and your preceding arguments are correct, than I know less about EPIC then I had thought. I assumed that run time profiling is a critical aspect of the philosophy. If not true, why is the current generation of compilers considered lacking? Certainly the original foundation execution studies (on percent of code theoretically parralizable) that led to EPIC were correct. And I thought that these studies assumed run time knowledge?
