Fear is always Fear of Something. Anxiety is Dread before the Unknown, Death.

One element of the Fear I'm talking about here is Fear of losing one's Capital. The economy will slow and so will earnings growth moving forward. To compensate here, the equity market wants Greenspan to ease. He will ease eventually; but not as quickly as the Market wants him to.

Uncertainty is a very bearish stock market phenomenon. To what degree will the economy slow? How much will corporate earnings get affected by 6 rate hikes? What will be the effect of higher energy prices on corporate profits if it remains above $30? How low will the Euro trade and negatively affect the earnings of multinational corporations moving forward? Will the consumer continue to spend at the same record pace given the record levels of debt?

Lots of uncertainty out there.
