Story shows stability of Zambia.
$300,000 institute in offing

By Business Reporter
IKCOM Institute of Southern Africa, an information technology (IT) firm is to
establish a campus in Kitwe at a cost of more than $300,000 (about K960 million).

Managing director Ambi Thind said in an interview yesterday the institute which
becomes operational early next year, would put up the campus as a sign of
commitment to investing in Zambia.

IKCOM Institute was first established in Sydney, Austria ten years ago, and
specialises in providing Information Technology (IT), technical education and career
development and vendor certification programmes.

Mr Thind said the institute had chosen to open a campus in Zambia, the first in
Southern Africa because of the country's political stability.

The campus would be located on the Copperbelt because this was where most of
the economic activity of the country was taking place.

'We have been impressed with the levels of investment going on which have made
the Copperbelt the hub of economic activities in the country,' he said.

He said the institute had established that there was a growing demand for IT
knowledge in Zambia and in industry in particular.

Mr Thind said the institute had held discussions with local internet providers and
marketing firms and would continue consulting other companies to chart the way
forward.

The Institute expects to begin with the first intake by February next year and would
run semester sessions of between six to eight months.

IKCOM Institute has other branches in New Zealand, with several others in
Australia.
