long-gone: KOMO plans a show on the NRA Monday night at 10:00. As a former Director of LUFA (a group here in Canada that tried to mirror the NRA but never got far due to internal fighting), I take an avid interest in the gun issue.

My neck of the woods is rural, and I live in a small western city. Most farmers here have one or a few rifles and such in the closet to shoot rodents, bears, and other critters that are threatening their safety or the safety of their domestic herds.

The only gun-related deaths here are suicides, and those people would, in my opinion, find a way to do themselves in no matter what. In fact, one poor fellow did this to himself in my apartment building just four months ago - his friends had no idea he was depressed: He hadn't reached out to anyone. His brother did the same thing a few years ago, so one suspects there is something in the family that has thus-far been kept under raps (and the two gents have taken to the grave).

Not to say that we don't have murders: domestic violence leaves its ugly mark here just as it does anywhere, but the last fellow that "did his wife in" did so just a few months ago with his bare hands - her friends and family had told her to leave for years, but she prevailed. I knew them both, and kept a distance because I had him pegged.

I am going to tape the show Monday night. Guns don't kill people - people kill people.
