First, pay close attention to the meeting next week. The model should be fleshed out and goals set.

In a couple of words, it's called the AOL model. The symbol is a triangle. The idea is an all purpose shopping mall for health services. One side of the triangle is the Physician and other service providers, the second is the Patient, the third is Payors. It becomes three dimensional if you divide it up into interface and connectivity. Outwardly the patient can find all his (informational) needs met through the Internet portal, ditto the Physician (records, billing, reimbursement), Pharmacy and other service provider, and Payor; running in the background is the real machine making the interconnectivity of all this flow smoothly. (I may have the sides of the triangle or pyramid incorrect according to the actual described model, but the idea is about the same).

From the WebMD site:

WebMD uses the Internet to facilitate a new system for the delivery of healthcare, resulting in a single secure environment for all communications and transactions enabling a more efficient cost effective healthcare system. WebMD provides connectivity and a full suite of services to the healthcare industry that improve administrative efficiencies and clinical effectiveness enabling high-quality patient care. The company's products and services facilitate information exchange, communication and transactions between the consumer, physician and healthcare institutions. The company's technology headquarters are located in Santa Clara and its corporate headquarters are located in Atlanta. For more information, visit www.webmd.com .

Through the recent announcements of our mergers with OnHealth, Medical Manager, Careinsite, ENVOY and Kinetra as well as strategic relationships with News Corporation, EDS, Eli Lilly, Humana, Medic, IDX/ChannelHealth and Quintiles, we have made significant strides toward enhancing our connectivity, content, partnerships, distribution, and branding. Through our affiliations with MediBuy.com, CVS, Global Sports, and Medtronic we are leveraging our broad connectivity platform to generate an entirely new line of revenue in healthcare e-commerce.
