<<Trouble is, Rambus claimed that patents in the context of RDRAM also apply to earlier DRAM. Infineon said, "OK, have it your way, but then we are applying our patent claims made in the context of earlier DRAM to RDRAM.">>

Someone explain this more clearly please.
Infineon signed a license with RMBS for RDRAM acknowledging Ramus patents, at the same time, as I understand it, any improvements etc, are automatically cross-licensed for Rambus automatically. I do not know about earlier patents, except to say that Rambus showed prior art in its patent application and was awarded a patent anyway.

As first to patent, which is what counts in Europe, and $Millions spent by Hitachi and others researching prior art, I really doubt the is prior art.

This is a smokescreen to obtain a better deal, no more no less, again risking the entire business for a lousy 2%.
They now almost seem as stupid as MU. When you up the stakes against Rambus, and do not win, you are in deep shit IMHO.

Zeev or someone, comments.
Thanks
