Partner MSFT unveils Mac's OFFICE 2001 10/11 at SF CompUSA
Should quell AAPL's latest crop of doomsayers as MSFT recognizes a "Mac" identity for OFFICE 2001: ----
" Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU) will officially launch Microsoft Office 2001 Macintosh Edition Oct. 11 at the San Francisco CompUSA store.
The unveiling will be 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. A special presentation at 12:30 to 1:30 pm will be made by John Endahl, store manager, CompUSA; Kevin Browne, general manager, MacBU; Clent Richardson, vice president of Apple World Wide Development, Apple; and Dominique Phillippe Goupil, president of FileMaker Pro.
"We are super proud and excited about Office 2001. It made a big splash at Macworld Expo, and we have ads running everywhere," a Microsoft spokesperson told MacCentral....
The choice of venue is part of a recent company trend of further engaging the retail channel, according to Irving Kwong, Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit product manager.
"Having launches at places like CompUSA and other retail stores is something that lets us really finitely target this individual consumer," Kwong says. "It is a more focused way of reaching customers."
Office 2001 for the Mac comes with a new marketing identity and packaging. The new marketing identity is especially designed for Mac customers and will help to easily distinguish Microsoft's Mac products, Mary Rose Becker, group product manager for the MacBU, told MacCentral earlier this year.
At the center of this new identity is ":mac." When combined with product names like Office or Entourage, the name "Office:mac" literally translates to mean "Office for Mac."
"From advertising and logos to product icons and our Web site dedicated to all things Mac at Microsoft, this new identity completely refreshes the way we present Microsoft's Mac products," Becker says.
"The new identity is also being introduced with a complete refresh of our Web site dedicated to all things Mac."
