The Russians SUPPORTED Slobo and what the administration pressed them to do was take a stand AGAINST Slobo. It would not have been wise to involve them unless they agreed to take our side first. The only reason Slobo stepped down was because the people of his country had taken a stand against him. Their position against him was pressed by the US bombing and sanctions placed against Serbia. If the bombing had never occurred ,the Serbians would not have risen up against Slobo. This is a clear win in foreign policy for the CLinton Gore Admin. A Bush admin would have gone in with guns blazing and lost a bunch of lives ( the lives of other peoples sons and daughters, certainly not their own children's.) The Russians are not a super power any more in fact they are relatively ineffectual in world politics. Perhaps Bush is hoping that some of his friends in the oil bidness will earn brownie points and get to drill on Russian soil.
