Not to mention the fact that guns are often used against a "loved" one. Having a gun in the house can make a domestic dispute even more deadly than it would be without the presence of a gun. Much harder (and takes longer) to beat someone to death than to shoot them to death.

Actually, the weapon of choice for crimes of passion is the knife. It, apparently, is more personal and the perpetrator gains more of a feeling of power over the victim. See OJ Simpson for reference.
