Perhaps someday people will figure out a way to farm yew trees.

Like it's some kind of mystery with regard to cultivating yew trees??

Here's a picture of 16,000 of them that make up a living maze which is constantly trimmed and shaped.

You cannot attack Gore on the environment

I'm not attacking him on the environment.

I'm attacking him for his complete and utter lack of common sense with regard to balancing the needs of the environment and the needs of society.

Take drilling in Alaska, for instance. The actual "footprint" of drilling rigs in that area would be very small in comparison to the total territory that has already been set aside.

The porcupine caribou are actually benefitting from the presence of man in their habitat since they are able to calve without suffereing from pressure by their native predators who disdain the presence of man.

AND THE BIGGEST POINT OF ALL:

The area they wish to drill in is effectively covered with ice and snow throughout a good portion of the year. They don't chop down any trees, the roads are already essentially built due to previous drilling at Prudhoe Bay... and most importantly, the native eskimoes WANT THE DRILLING BECAUSE IT MEANS JOBS FOR THEM. In fact, I bet more trees were cut down to build your home than will be cut down drilling for oil in this protected area.

I repeat... THIS AREA IS AN ARCTIC DESERT.

It is this OVER-ZEALOUS ENVIRONMENTALISM THAT I'M TAKING GORE TO TASK OVER...

If you're a religious man, then you should realize that having this country held hostage to the extremist political situation in the middle east is the WORST FOREIGN POLICY MISTAKE WE CAN MAKE.
