You know your Cotter lore well. But where you fail in your comparisons is that unlike the domestic exhibitor dogmeat in bankruptcy and those soon to wind up there, CRG/RDGE/CDL OWN most of the land underneath. In addition, the capital has primarily been deployed in geographically preferable regions, Australia, New Zealand and Manhattan. Lastly, in addition to owning most properties and not having underwater leases, the entities are under-levered. I don't want to sound too much a fan as he complicates things way too much for his (or anyone elses) own good, but to give Cotter credit, his prognostications of the demise of the domestic industry have come to fore and his empire seems to have survived quite sufficiently. He is best positioned to buy up selected pieces at quite attractive prices.

Discounted security price vs stated asset value doesn't even include the 2nd largest puerto rican chain (written down to $0 earlier this year) which upon further research has also a possible contingent asset from a >$100 MM lawsuit with Cotter's side as the plaintiff. If there's one thing I've learned here, its to be on his side of lawsuit.

For fun, why don't you look up Cinerama Dome vs. Technicolor? Its quite famous in Delaware.
