but if near term appreciation of options are the only reason someone joins a company, then maybe this is an opportunity to reconsider their motivation --- Very well said. Most people who work at Microsoft work there because of the opportunity to do work that excites them. If you're going to work long, hard hours on a consistent basis, you'd better enjoy your work. Otherwise you'll probably be miserable regardless of your compensation. - Eric
